Cable Removal

ABANDONED CABLE REMOVAL

Abandoned cable removal can be a difficult and confusing task since there are often a great variety of cables left behind in walls and ceilings over many years of occupancy. Clear Choice Technologies Inc. can efficiently determine what is abandoned and remove all necessary cable and components from any vacated premise. Don’t hesitate to contact us for a free survey and written estimate.

Abandoned Communications Cable is defined by the National Electric Code (NEC) Article 800.2 as the following;

Installed communications cable that is not terminated at both ends with a connector or other equipment and not identified for future use with a tag.

A tenant is responsible to bear the expenses of removing the abandoned cable if agreed upon in writing before moving in; otherwise, cable removal will be the responsibility of the building owner.

It is amazing how much cabling is often left behind in buildings, abandoned dangerously each time an old tenant moves out. The new tenant either installs a new physical network, leaving the previous network installations abandoned, or might go for an upgrade still leaving some of the original setup abandoned. This can be dangerous and might result in short circuits, sparks, and fire in the worst cases.

Due to changes in the National Electric Code (NEC), these abandoned wires may now render your property out of code, jeopardize your fire insurance, and represent a significant legal liability. The new rules make it a violation to have abandoned wires in your building's risers or plenums and, in addition, mandate the use of specific wiring standards for new installs.

The new NEC rules are quite complex, and often confusing, causing building owners to wonder which way to turn. Clear Choice Technologies, Inc. has the knowledge and practical expertise to guide you through this rather unclear area of danger and liability related to abandoned wiring. Furthermore, we have a highly skilled technical staff capable of performing the identification and removal task according to code very economically.

We strongly recommend building owners to amend leases to sort abandoned cabling issues in compliance with the residential rules. To the tenants we provide NEC compliant cabling installation and cabling removal services that ensures minimum hassle at the end of lease term.
